Stephen Colbert guesses Game of Thrones endings with Kit Harington
By Matt Moore
Kit Harington did his best to keep a straight face as Stephen Colbert predicted endings to Game of Thrones.
We are coming up on the bittersweet date of April 14. That’s when we finally get the new season of Game of Thrones. It’s also the last season we’ll get, meaning predictions and fan theories have been flying left and right. We can now add Stephen Colbert’s wild ideas to the pile.
Colbert is no stranger to the world of fantasy. It’s well known that he is an expert on all things Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. He’s also a Game of Thrones fan so he too was excited to have Kit Harington on The Late Show last night.
Harington’s character Jon Snow is a fan favorite and the one many people want to see end the series on top. Given Harington’s popularity and Colbert’s appreciation for Game of Thrones, Last Night On listed the interview as a must-watch for this week.
The Late Show appearance didn’t disappoint, assuming you are trying to actively avoid any Thrones spoilers. If you are trying to get a sneak peak at what will happen in season eight, there are plenty of places to go looking online. Instead, Harington did his best not to give anything away when faced with Colbert’s theories on the ending.
Fans can expect to get a lot more reflection from the cast on their experiences with Game of Thrones. But even in this brief clip, it’s nice to see Harington look back on the past 10 years with some perspective. His co-star Lena Headey expressed some similar things recently on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
There isn’t much that Kit Harington could say, true or false, that wouldn’t somehow ruin the viewing experience. Still, he managed to build even more hype for the epic battle scene we’ll see this season.
Stephen Colbert’s expertise in the fantasy genre made him perhaps the best person to try to guess the ending of Game of Thrones. Instead he offered only absurd comedic predictions. But perhaps it is Colbert’s love for the show and storytelling that made him not want to put Harington on the spot or spoil anything by putting out a potentially true scenario.
Game of Thrones returns to HBO on April 14. We can expect to see more of the show’s stars like Peter Dinklage, Emilia Clarke, and Sophie Turner pop up on late night shows as we get even closer to the date. Keep checking out Winter Is Coming for all things Game of Thrones and Last Night On for all things late night.
