Fans have had a hard time keeping track of Saturday Night Live’s schedule this season so should they look for a new episode tonight?

If you’re a Saturday Night Live fan then you know how unpredictable this season has been. Not necessarily in terms of the comedy, sketches, or hosts. But it has been the schedule that has thrown many fans off this year.

There have been periods in which nothing new comes out of SNL followed by three consecutive weeks of new episodes. This has left some fans frustrated and made it a little more difficult to track the momentum of season 44. But if we know one thing about Saturday Night Live fans it is that they are incredibly dedicated to the show.

It is a little easier to understand when the show takes a break during the week of a holiday or when a holiday falls on a weekend or Monday. There was a month long break after Matt Damon’s Christmas episode. But then there was also a break during Super Bowl week before the show returned with host/musical guest Halsey.

So what does it mean that Monday is Washington’s Birthday, AKA Presidents’ Day? Will the show be taking another break this week?

Don’t worry fans. Saturday Night Live is in fact back tonight with an all new episode. Don Cheadle is the host with musical guest Gary Clark Jr. It will be the first time hosting for Cheadle who can currently be seen in the Showtime series Black Monday.

We’ve already seen in promos that Alec Baldwin will be back as President Donald Trump tonight. Whether or not SNL writers had time to come up with something based on his national emergency press conference or it will take on a different topic will be something to watch for.

An actor as experienced, talented, and funny as Cheadle should have no problem hosting. Expect things to be a little different than last week when host Halsey was limited to supporting characters in her sketches.

It was a busy week when it comes to politics so we may see Saturday Night Live hit on that topic more than we’ve seen in 2019. As long as they have a fresh and funny take on the headlines, it should be well-received. SNL airs tonight at 11:30 PM ET on NBC. Check back with Last Night On to see all the night’s best sketches.
