New England Patriots running back Sony Michel revealed the inspiration he got before the game and the fan moment he had with Tom Brady after the win.

If you’re a fan of the new high-scoring era of the NFL then chances are you weren’t too impressed with Super Bowl LIII. There weren’t too many highlights from the New England Patriots’ win over the Los Angeles Rams. The lone touchdown was scored by Patriots’ running back Sony Michel and landed the rookie a visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live!

With not much to talk about regarding the actual game, Jimmy Kimmel decided instead to focus the interview on things that happened off the field. Of particular interest to Kimmel was the after party the Patriots threw in Atlanta.

Thanks to social media, fans get a pretty good idea of what these parties are like. Players posting to Instagram provide a peek behind the curtain. For the Patriots, we already knew the lineup of performers included Snoop Dogg and Meek Mill.

Fans also know that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is a pretty private guy off the field. Sure, he’ll pop up on late night shows from time to time but everything is usually fairly scripted. So Kimmel was curious as to how Brady was celebrating his sixth Super Bowl title and got his answer from Sony MIchel.

A private VIP section within a private party seems about right for Tom Brady and wife Gisele Bundchen. You can only imagine how many people would want his attention, take a picture, or just stand close by. Even Michel couldn’t resist acting like a superfan and getting his phone out.

Overall, the interview with Michel provided some glimpse into his personality. The Patriots are known for keeping players closed off from the media and for restricting how much they can go off script. Rob Gronkowski is certainly an exception but even he can’t go full Gronk all the time.

So it was nice to get a sense of who Michel is as a person and the crowd certainly responded well to the Super Bowl champ. Michel’s parents are from Haiti and the running back as been active in raising money for disaster relief efforts there. It’s good for fans to see the players under the helmet and Michel certainly gained some fans outside of New England after this interview.

Hopefully with some time, Sony Michel and his college teammate/Rams running back Todd Gurley can finally catch up. But after rushing for only 35 yards it’s understandable that Gurley wanted to get clear of the Patriots celebration. If they do meet, maybe Michel should keep his victory grill in his fanny pack so he doesn’t rub it in too much.
