By Matt Moore
Get ready for Super Bowl Sunday by revisiting some of these classic Saturday Night Live sketches.
We are just days away from the biggest spectacle in U.S. sports. Millions of people will be tuning into to watch the Super Bowl between the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots. It will be a giant event across the country as it is every year. And no giant event goes on without getting the Saturday Night Live treatment.
In its 44 seasons Saturday Night Live has always had an eye on the biggest things going on in pop culture, politics, and sports. Sports especially have had a special relationship with the show. Athletes have hosted and also been impersonated or parodied countless times.
So it is no surprise that the Super Bowl has been an inspiration for Saturday Night Live writers and performers over the years. The game is usually the highest rated television event of the year. Whether you are a die-hard football fan or watching your first NFL game come Super Bowl Sunday, there is no denying the cultural impact of the game.
In a similar way, no television show has had the cultural impact like Saturday Night Live. And while recent years have kept the focus on the show’s political sketches, there is still a place for finding humor in sports and the Super Bowl especially.
With that being said, take a look at these classic Super Bowl sketches from SNL. It should make for a nice Throwback Thursday and a change of pace from the nearly two weeks of analysis on Sunday’s game.
