Steph Curry has an explanation for his slip and airball lowlight against the Lakers
By Matt Moore
Steph Curry tried to pass the blame for his blooper against the Lakers but his fellow Late Late Show guests weren’t buying it.
We all make mistakes no matter what we do. It’s just that when we see someone who excels in something fail, it gets a little bit more attention. And few people excel in basketball like Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry.
He’s arguably the best shooter in the history of the NBA. His range on the court seems limitless. He has two Most Valuable Player awards, has been named to five All-Star teams, and his already a three time NBA champion. Add to those accomplishments the fact that he is right next to LeBron James for the most popular player on the planet.
A common phrase used to describe Curry’s play is that “he makes it look easy.” Anyone who has played basketball at any level can understand this when you see how effortless it looks for Curry to dribble through defenders or get his shot off at anytime. So that may be part of the reason so many people loved watching his blunder Monday night against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Last Night On told you that Curry’s visit to The Late Late Show with James Corden would be an interview to watch this week. That choice was based on Curry’s personality and the viral clip he made with Corden during his last time on the show. We couldn’t have predicted Curry’s slip and airball trending the night before but Corden certainly lucked out and gave Curry the chance to explain:
An airball by itself isn’t much of a blooper in basketball these days unless it comes from the free throw line. So that wouldn’t be worth talking about even coming from Curry. But going down that hard on a fastbreak followed by an airball? Well, that can’t be ignored.
Credit to Curry for having a good laugh about it and playing along with Corden. There very well could have been a wet spot on the floor. Thankfully comedian Ron Funches was there to follow up with a question on how the L.A. Kings game earlier in the day led to Curry missing the rim completely.
It is probably easy for Steph Curry to laugh about a blooper like this during a game in January knowing that he could easily go for 50+ points in the next game. It also doesn’t hurt that his Warriors have been penciled in for the NBA Finals since the preseason. Curry has just reached the level that mess-ups are far more unexpected and newsworthy than any more highlights he can bring to the floor. Not a bad problem to have.
