The best of Jimmy Kimmel Live 2018
By Matt Moore
2018 was another successful year for Jimmy Kimmel Live bolstered by a confident Jimmy Kimmel standing his ground.
By now, we all know to be careful when using social media. Not everything can be trusted and it is easy to go down a rabbit hole of hate and anger. The backlash and insults from anonymous users typically directed at politicians has seeped into sports, music, and late night television. No one know this better than Jimmy Kimmel.
Kimmel has been increasingly targeted over the years as he has become more outspoken about his own political and social beliefs. Things reached a low point when he detailed his son Billy’s medical ordeal and called for universal health care. Kimmel was mocked for crying on television and criticized for being a comedian trying to talk about political issues.
Yet rather than back down or fear losing sponsors, Kimmel has only become more confident and willing to put himself out there like few others in late night do. Whether it is gun control, immigration, or sexual harassment, Kimmel has not hesitated to state his position and call out those he sees as failing to help find solutions.
Similar to some other late night hosts, Kimmel chose to go all-in on President Trump in 2018 as a further demonstration of how Kimmel’s comedy was informed by his personal views. Audiences responded as Kimmel went after Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Donald Trump, Jr. and anyone else related to the president.
If the political humor and satire is not what you want in a late night show then Jimmy Kimmel Live! still delivered in 2018. Kimmel is perhaps the best interviewer when it comes to getting a natural conversation to come across to viewers. He seems to delight in the unexpected answer that lets him get away from the prepped questions.
The confidence of Kimmel and his easy-going nature with celebrities combined to make 2018 one of the best years for Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Below you can see Last Night On’s picks for the show’s best moments of the year.
