In a crowded late night field, James Corden continued to make The Late Late Show stand out in 2018.

We all know that there are plenty of options when it comes to late night programming. YouTube and social media have made it easier to follow what every host and show are doing. If you want political humor, you may turn to Stephen Colbert or Seth Meyers. Like things a bit more absurd or ridiculous? Then watch Conan O’Brien. And if you’re looking for pure, unfiltered fun then you turn to The Late Late Show with James Corden.

With an energy matched perhaps only by Jimmy Fallon, James Corden is clearly having the time of his life as host of The Late Late Show. The format, inspired by The Graham Norton Show, brings all of Corden’s guests out at once making for some memorable combinations and interactions. These are fantastically managed by Corden who is able to weave together and connect everyone on the couch effortlessly.

Corden has also found a recipe that works outside of celebrity interviews. He has followed the example set by Jimmy Fallon on how games with celebrities can be a popular segment. Just recently Corden had another viral hit with a round of “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts” with Will Ferrell.  And of course, “Carpool Karaoke” remains an absolute hit both as a segment on The Late Late Show and its own spinoff series.

Corden’s creativity and enjoyment has paid off in the ratings, too. During stretches of 2018 he pulled ahead of Late Night with Seth MeyersThe Late Late Show has also benefited from following The Late Show with Stephen Colbert as that show has held a steady lead in the ratings over all competition.

It’s easy to see why James Corden experienced more success and why he’s having so much fun when you look over the highlights from 2018. Below you can see Last Night On’s picks for the best of The Late Late Show over the past 12 months.
