Kanye West cost James Corden $45K by cancelling Carpool Karaoke
By Jeremy Dick
The Late Late Show host James Corden revealed that by bailing on a Carpool Karaoke segment at the very last minute, Kanye West cost the show $45,000.
Not cool, Kanye!
On Tuesday night’s episode of The Late Late Show, host James Corden had reality TV star Kris Jenner on as a guest. The two engaged in an activity called Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts, and things got pretty interesting. With the idea of the game being that you have to answer a question you’re asked honestly or eat a very unappetizing food, Jenner took the opportunity to ask Corden a question about her son-in-law, Kanye West.
Straight up, Jenner asks Corden why he’s never done a Carpool Karaoke segment with West. It’s reasonable, considering the range of talent who’ve previously taken part in the bit (including the legendary Sir Paul McCartney). As it turns out, however, it wasn’t for a lack of trying, as Corden has tried many times to get West on the show.
“He’s cancelled twice, maybe even three times,” Corden explains, saying West actually cancelled one time as Corden was pulling onto the road to go to his house. Corden was in front of West’s house by the end of the call, only to be told by people outside that West wasn’t “in the zone” for the bit that day.
Corden did clarify that West was kind enough to send him a “cube of flowers” and a pair of Yeezys. He remarked how when people say how expensive these things must have been, Corden responded, “Yeah, they cost my show $45,000!” Ouch.
With or without Kanye West, however, Corden will continue to do his thing on weeknights. Expect more Carpool Karaoke segments to come in the future! You can watch The Late Late Show with James Corden when it airs weeknights at 12:37 a.m. on CBS.
