The Daily Show with Trevor Noah gets first Emmy nomination
By Jeremy Dick
Trevor Noah has gotten his first Emmy nomination for his hosting duties on The Daily Show, while Bill Maher, Seth Meyers, and Jimmy Fallon were snubbed.
Big congrats to Trevor Noah!
When Noah took over hosting duties from Jon Stewart for Comedy Central’s The Daily Show in 2015, he had some really big shoes to fill. Still, Noah stepped up to the plate, and has proven to be a great host of the show in his own way. As each year went by, however, The Daily Show failed to get any Emmy nominations under Noah’s tenure. Now, that all changes, as Deadline confirms Noah’s Daily Show has gotten the nod for this years Primetime Emmy Awards!
For the coveted award for the Best Variety Talk Series, Noah joins five other top late night show. The others include The Late Late Show with James Corden, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (last year’s winner), Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.
For her part, Samantha Bee’s inclusion is surprising to some, given her controversial remarks made about Ivanka Trump. Bee has since apologized, however, and the network continued to stand by her. Ultimately, the situation only seems to have brought her show publicity.
This list also leaves a couple noticeable snubs. NBC’s Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers are both seeing themselves off the list. HBO funnyman Bill Maher is also absent for his work on Real Time. The competition is certainly heating up on late night television, and we’ll see if Oliver takes the win again, or is another show pulls it off this year.
