Bill Maher dove in on Donald Trump and Kim Jong-Un’s summit meeting in North Korea, picking it apart and labeling it as nothing more than a feckless stunt.

Why does that phrase sound so familiar…

We’re just days away from that big summit meeting between the president of the United States, Donald Trump, and infamous North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un. Ever since, Trump has been showering Kim with praise, talking about how great of a person he is, not to mention that he’s “funny.”

Last night on Real Time with Bill Maher, this situation was addressed in the opening monologue. To start with, Maher is entertained by a mock movie trailer actually made by the White House, spinning Trump and Kim’s partnership as a marvelous event befitting of a Hallmark movie. “It looks like something Scientology would make if they were merging with Amway,” Maher remarks about the video.

Maher moves on to Trump’s lavish praise for North Korea, including proposing the idea of putting Trump brand resort hotels on their beaches. “When you call room service, they ask you for food,” Maher quips, pointing out how it’s not like the people there can even afford a beach hotel stay.

But what’s important is how critics have basically been saying this highly publicized meeting is all tantamount to nothing, with no actual results. “It’s two people, who lie about everything, who signed a deal that was specific about nothing,” Maher summarizes. He then channels a recent controversy with Samantha Bee by concluding that the summit meeting was nothing more than a “feckless stunt.”
