President Donald Trump is essentially a mobster as Bill Maher shows the interesting parallels on last night’s episode of Real Time.

Is Donald Trump the president or the godfather?

On last night’s new episode of Real Time on HBO, host Bill Maher closed out his New Rules segment by speaking about how Trump is basically a mobster. Though he doesn’t mean that literally, there are some interesting parallels Maher brings up, and it’s a spot-on take down of the president.

First, Maher expresses how he can’t fathom how the “family values” crowd is buying into Trump. His theory is that these Trump voters felt threatened by the liberals so they voted in Trump for protection, and now they’re “married to the mob.” Straight up, Maher says that the Trump administration is a “protection racket.”

Maher then goes into how everything Trump does is modeled by the mafia. He brought in Bill Clinton’s accusers to sit in the gallery at a debate, which is something the Corleone family would do in The Godfather. He only hires and listens to “disposable lawyers and idiot members of his own family.” He’s enemies with the FBI. And the source of his money isn’t clear – he’s “in construction,” if you will.

Getting more serious, Maher says Trump is using a front business (the freaking White House in this case) to make his own family richer. Going through all of Trump’s crones, there’s an equal for everyone in the Corleone family. Maher closes out by saying that although he never liked Trump, he didn’t realize he was a “cheap hood” all along, and nothing more than a common thug.

Will Maher soon wake up to find a horse’s head in his bed? It probably wouldn’t be so shocking at this point. To keep up with the late night funnyman, tune in when Real Time with Bill Maher airs Fridays at 10 p.m. on HBO!
