Cheech and Chong ‘retire’ from stoner comedy on Colbert
By Jeremy Dick
As legal marijuana is becoming more embraced by politicians, Cheech and Chong appeared on The Late Show last night to retire from doing pot comedies.
Now that people are cool with weed, is weed no longer cool?
Last night on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Colbert spoke about the news about John Boehner diving headfirst into the medical marijuana industry. It directly contradicts the Republican politician’s previous statements that he would never flip on the issue and he was unequivocally against it. And Boehner is just one of many politicians finally coming around on legalization.
To find out more, Colbert brought in two marijuana experts to speak on the subject. Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong, otherwise known as Cheech and Chong, showed up via satellite, and they are not happy. Thinking they’d be excited for legalization, Colbert is surprised to learn that weed is boring now. Cheech was frustrated to reveal that the last time he bought weed was in a store at a strip mall – he misses how it was before when he had to buy it behind the store at a strip mall.
Chong jokes that he wants to stick with things that are illegal, such as unpasteurized dairy products. He pulls out a cheese tray which Cheech refers to as “the Devil’s Velveeta.” They also claim they’ll speak about things like boarding exotic reptiles, and taping NFL games without permission from the league. As long as it’s illegal, it’s edgy and still safe for the duo to talk about!
Colbert feels like it’s the end of an era. To see the “retirement” for yourself you can watch it in the video below.

Are Cheech and Chong really retiring? Nah. Chances are they’re not even going to remember their appearance on The Late Show. But you can always catch more from Colbert when the show airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. EST only on CBS.
