Stephen Colbert responds to FBI raid of Trump lawyer Michael Cohen
By Jeremy Dick
After hearing about the FBI raid on Donald Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen, Stephen Colbert took to The Late Show to mock the president’s response.
We knew Stephen Colbert was going to have something funny to say about this!
Earlier this week, huge news hit headlines which didn’t look great for the president of the United States. Michael Cohen, lawyer to Donald Trump, was hit with an FBI raid in both his office and hotel room. It doesn’t exactly paint Trump and his legal team in a very good light, so needless to say, it’s been all everyone’s talking about.
Last night on The Late Show, Colbert took his turn speaking about the news. He explains how Cohen’s personal electronics, including his cell phone and computer, were taken by authorities. It’s also reported that the FBI is looking for information related to a 2016 payment Cohen made to Stormy Daniels, the adult film actress alleging an affair with Trump. But what entertains Colbert the most is Trump’s response to what happened.
Colbert shows a clip of Trump responding to the raid, saying the FBI “broke into” Cohen’s office. “They didn’t break in, they used a search warrant!” Colbert points out. He adds, in his best Trump impression, “They broke into my attorney’s office, stole a bunch of damning evidence… I think they might kidnap him to jail!”
The president has also repeatedly called the situation a disgrace, as well as tweeted out a message saying that a “total witch hunt” was going on. But the raid was planned and approved by multiple Trump appointees, as Colbert points out. He then goes into the details of Cohen’s payment to Daniels, and there’s just really nothing Trump can say.
