Charlotte Pence, whose family’s book for children was spoofed by a new book from John Oliver, claims even she bought a copy of the parody version.

It seems like everybody is buying a copy of the new parody book from John Oliver, even members of the Pence family!

On Sunday night, Oliver took to his late night show Last Week Tonight on HBO to speak about Mike Pence. After highlighting the apparent homophobic beliefs of the vice president, Oliver brought up how the Pence family was releasing a children’s book about their pet bunny, Marlon Bundo. Written by Charlotte Pence, the eldest of Mike’s three children, the book was set to be released the following day.

Beating the Pence family to the punch, Oliver announced he was releasing his own parody book immediately. Oliver’s version is a complete spoof of the Pence book, only in this version, Marlon Bundo is depicted as a homosexual rabbit. Quickly, it reached the No. 1 seller spot on Amazon, beating the actual book it’s spoofing in sales by a wide margin.

Despite having the book she wrote being satirized by Oliver, Charlotte Pence is apparently holding no ill will. In fact, she even bought a copy of the book herself. Charlotte likes that the proceeds from Oliver’s book are going to charity, but as she tells ITK, she’s still hopeful that her own book will help young readers learn more about what her father does:

"“I have bought the book. He’s giving proceeds of the book to charity, and we’re also giving proceeds of our book to charity, so I really think that we can all get behind it.”"

Additionally, Charlotte prefers to see everyone come together for Marlon rather than to be divisive. I suppose we can’t argue with that.
