Marlon Wayans reveals he was originally cast as Robin in Batman Forever

In an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, actor Marlon Wayans revealed he was originally cast to play Robin in the film Batman Forever.
Back in the 1990s, the character of Robin was first introduced to the Batman films starting with Batman Forever. Ultimately, the role would be played by Chris O’Donnell, who would reprise the part in the next film Batman and Robin. It would be hard to picture somebody else playing that role in retrospect, but apparently, O’Donnell was not the first choice!
Last night on The Tonight Show, Marlon Wayans came on as a guest to speak with Jimmy Fallon. When they begin to discuss superhero films in the wake of the success of Black Panther, Wayans reveals he nearly played a superhero himself. Apparently, he was originally cast as Robin in Batman Forever, but unfortunately he wound up being let go from the project.
As Wayans explains, though he was cast in the role (and even paid $100,000!), he was told he was being bumped from Batman Forever. The reason he was given is that there wasn’t enough time to develop his character, so they would explore that further in the next film Batman and Robin. However, once Joel Schumacher came on board as director, he had other plans for Robin. With that, Wayans was out the door, and O’Donnell was in.
