Stephen Colbert plays ‘Dictator Bingo’ with Donald Trump
By Jeremy Dick
On last night’s Late Show, host Stephen Colbert pulled out his Dictator Bingo card to check off some boxes after some recent actions from Donald Trump.
It’s hard to say whether Dictator Bingo is more amusing than it is utterly horrifying…
Last night on The Late Show, Stephen Colbert thought he’d kick off his monologue by having a bit of fun. First, after welcoming his viewers to the program, he spoke about what’s going on now with Donald Trump. Recently, Trump had ordered the Pentagon to plan a special military parade, and this led to Colbert pulling out his Dictator Bingo card.
“Alright, check your cards, who has Dictator Bingo?” Colbert asks, holding up an actual Bingo card. Some of the squares feature various dictator-like qualities, such as “face on money” and “no term limits.” But it seems that with the military parade, Colbert himself is close to getting that Dictator Bingo, as he’s already marked off “attack the free press” and “rallies.”
Colbert then gets more serious, talking about how Americans traditionally don’t hold such military parades. “Normally, if you’re in a city with tanks rolling down the road, I wouldn’t bring the children,” the Late Show host stresses. He adds that the founding fathers never wanted a standing army, and that was more of a “European fetish,” but not the kind Ben Franklin would enjoy.
