Aquaman actor Jason Momoa revealed to Jimmy Fallon on last night’s Tonight Show that he had great difficulty getting work after Game of Thrones.

If not for Zack Snyder, we might have seen Jason Momoa’s acting career come to an end!

Last night, Momoa (also known as Aquaman and Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones) appeared as a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. In a sit-down interview, Momoa opens up on the period of his career between Game of Thrones and Aquaman. And apparently that wasn’t exactly the greatest period of time in Momoa’s career.

Because of his look, and perhaps also because of the character he played, many assumed Momoa couldn’t speak English. The former Game of Thrones actor reveals to Fallon that acting offers weren’t coming his way because of this misconception. It wasn’t until director Zack Synder just gave him a call of of the blue with an offer for Aquaman that Momoa’s career got back on track.

Momoa tells the story about how Snyder called him in to supposedly audition for Batman in Justice League. But Momoa knew that Ben Affleck had already been cast, so he wasn’t sure what role he was really up for. Thinking he’d just be playing one of the villains as a foil to Batman and Superman, Momoa was shocked to hear that Snyder was offering him the part of Aquaman.
