Barack Obama set as first guest for David Letterman on Netflix
By Jeremy Dick
David Letterman will be speaking to former president Barack Obama for the premiere episode of his new monthly talk show series on Netflix.
David Letterman is BACK!
Beginning on Jan. 12, Letterman’s all new original series My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman will premiere on the Netflix streaming service. Immediately proving the title of the series to be accurate, Letterman has tapped Barack Obama to be the show’s first guest. On Friday, the former host of The Late Show and the previous president of the United States will reunite in what should be a candid and entertaining conversation.
In a teaser for the series, Letterman speaks about how he used to have a show for a long time, only to not have a show for a long time, and now he’s getting back to form. You can check that out in the YouTube video below.
Letterman does have a lot of fans, but will enough of them follow him to Netflix to tune in? Chelsea Handler recently completed her talk series Chelsea on Netflix, so talk shows aren’t proven to be a bona fide hit. Of course, Letterman is one of the greatest talk show hosts ever, and many people weren’t expecting to ever see him on a new show again. One can’t help but wonder how many non-subscribers will get Netflix just to catch back up with Letterman.
According to The Washington Post, some of the other guests to expect in the series are George Clooney, Malala Yousafzai, Tina Fey, Jay-Z, and Howard Stern. New episodes will premiere once a month on the streaming giant.
