Stephen Colbert was feeling a little festive about the incoming holiday season, comparing the indictment of Donald Trump’s pals to a Christmas miracle.

I don’t know if I have ever seen Stephen Colbert in such a good mood!

Last night, Colbert kicked off his Late Show monologue bringing up the huge news coming from Robert Mueller’s investigation. Noting that it’s Halloween, Colbert says things are about to be very spooky… for Donald Trump, that is!

Mueller has announced the first indictment in his investigation, and the “lucky winner” is former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort. The news is so good for Colbert that he says it feels much more like Christmas than Halloween. He thing sings, to the tune of “O Christmas Tree”, his own holiday jingle about the situation:

“Paul Manafort, Paul Manafort, you’re just the first of many!”

Colbert does the same with a couple other Christmas tunes, clearly having a big celebration at the expense of Trump and his pals. Colbert jokes that these jokes would have worked even better at Christmas, but perhaps with news this amazing, it seems Christmas came early this year for Colbert.

The funnyman also has a laugh at how the charges were first filed on Friday, though the FBI allowed Manafort to wait until Monday to turn himself in. “Wow, we white people really do get arrested differently,” Colbert jokes. He adds that they may as well have sent an engraved invitation. Still, the charges against Manafort are very serious, but it could just be the tip of the iceberg of the troubles that are heading in the way of the President.
