Stephen Colbert took to The Late Show to talk about the true but terrible pick-up line which got Donald Trump rejected by actress Brooke Shields.

President Donald Trump is sure no Casanova!

Clearly, Mr. Trump doesn’t exactly have a way with women. If we’re to take his Access Hollywood bus conversation with Billy Bush as an indicator, his style is just to grab them straight by the, erm, genitals. But apparently when Trump actually tries to do things the “right” way by way of pick-up lines, he’s just downright sad.

On last night’s Late Show, Stephen Colbert brought up a story from Brooke Shields, in which the actress recounts being asked out by the future president. Here’s how Trump tried to pick up Shields, and we probably won’t need to explain why it didn’t exactly work. According to Shields, Trump said, “I really think we should date because you’re America’s sweetheart, and I’m America’s richest man, and the people would love it.”

“Really? That was his pick-up line?” Colbert asks aloud after hearing that. He adds, “No wonder he prefers women who speak English as a second language.” I guess it does explain a lot. Funny enough, Colbert reveals that other actresses at the time would turn Trump down as well, including Candice Bergen and Emma Thompson.

But Colbert doesn’t quite drop it there. Having fun with the idea, he comes up with several other “pick-up lines” he could envision Trump using on other celebrities. You can watch the full bit in the YouTube video below.
