On last night’s new episode of Last Week Tonight, host John Oliver took aim at Alex Jones of InfoWars, completely and utterly ripping him apart.

“Ideally, the first thing you should know about The Alex Jones Show is nothing,” John Oliver told viewers last night on HBO. And that’s not an uncommon reaction. If you know who Alex Jones is, and you’re not a fan of his, chances are you think he’s a freakin’ lunatic.

Obviously, that makes Jones an easy target for comedians. Stephen Colbert has had a field day spoofing him with his “Tuck Buckford” character. But last night on Last Week Tonight, it was Oliver’s turn to take down Jones, which he spends over 20 minutes doing.

Oliver begins by talking about the strange relationship between Jones and President Donald Trump. This of course led to tons of coverage in the media for Jones, with some of that including negative comments from Oliver himself. Oliver plays a clip of Jones trashing Last Week Tonight on his show, in which he only ends up making himself look like a joke.

Putting personal differences aside, however, Oliver goes on to explain how Alex’s show is, well, dangerous. Spreading his brand of lunacy is unhealthy when there are far too many gullible people out there eating it up. Oliver deconstructs the scam artist that Jones really is, and the best defense Jones seems to have is that his comments only look bad “out of context”.

But as Oliver points out, hearing them in context makes him look even worse:

"“If you play them in context, he looks like a skilled salesman spending hours a day frightening you about problems like ‘refugees spreading disease’ and then selling you an answer.”"
