‘Game of Thrones’ author teases two new books in 2018

Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin is teasing multiple new books in the franchise, suggesting two of them could even be here by next year.
For fans of George R. R. Martin’s widely popular book series which inspired Game of Thrones, this ought to be great news!
Currently, the HBO adaptation of Martin’s huge book series is airing episodes for its seventh season. At this point, the story has gone past that of its source material, forcing the show’s writers to take these characters into totally unexplored territory. The show has officially become its own entity.
But Thrones readers enjoy the books just as much, if not more, than the HBO series. Still, they have been waiting for years for the next book in the series. Called “The Winds of Winter,” the next novel in the Westeros series will be the sixth overall so far. Though it started to seem like we’d never see the book, Martin has always insisted he’s still working on it and it is, in fact, coming.
But that’s not the only new Thrones book coming from Martin! He’s also putting together a compendium called “Fire and Blood,” consisting of many different stories set in the same universe. Courtesy of GameSpot, Martin is now saying this compendium will be split up into two volumes, with the first planned to arrive in late 2018. Better yet, “The Winds of Winter” could very well be coming next year too.
From a blog post by Martin:
"“Whether Winds or the first volume of Fire and Blood will be the first to hit the bookstores is hard to say at this juncture, but I do think you will have a Westeros book from me in 2018.And who knows, maybe two. A boy can dream…”"
