Late Night’s Stephen Colbert took an overseas trip to Russia, and news of his whereabouts was “leaked”. Fortunately, however, Colbert knows the source!

Last night on Late Night with Stephen Colbert, the subject of Colbert’s trip to Russia was immediately brought up. According to the Late Night host himself, the details of this trip were supposed to be top secret. With a plan to get in and out before anyone knew, Colbert was allegedly hoping to keep the entire trip private until he returned.

Of course, news of Colbert being in Russia was all over the web before he came back. Someone had revealed Colbert’s location to the media, so there must have been a leaker. But the good news, Colbert claims, is that he knows exactly who that was. So… who was it?

“Luckily, after an exhaustive search, we have found the leaker,” Colbert says. He adds, “It was me,” showing a tweeted photograph straight from his personal Twitter account reading “Me in Russia.” So apparently Colbert actually knew what he was doing all along!

Colbert then brings up his appearance on a Russian talk show during his trip to the country. Saying he “accidentally made some news on purpose,” Colbert shows a video clip of him announcing that he’s considering a 2020 run for president. But Colbert clarifies that if he were to really run for president, he wouldn’t ask the Russians for help. He’d ask his son-in-law to ask ’em instead!

You can watch Colbert tell viewers all about his Russia trip in the video below.
