How is President Donald Trump’s promise to “drain the swamp” going? Not very well, as Seth Meyers proved on last night’s Late Night.

During his presidential campaign, Donald Trump was saying whatever it took to get votes. Sure, millions of people didn’t trust a word he’d say, seeing him as a con man. But others gave some trust to the man who’d become president and really believed in the promises he was making.

There are many things Trump said he’d do that he’s failing to act upon. One of the most notable examples is his promise to “drain the swamp” by clearing out insiders and lobbyists from Washington. So for last night’s Checking In segment on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Meyers is putting the “drain the swamp” promise under a microscope to see how Trump is doing with it.

Of course, there really aren’t any surprises here. Meyers shows how Trump is actually doing the exact opposite of what he said. His administration has hired lobbyists to advise or run agencies they had just been targeting. Examples are then shown of Trump seemingly “repaying favors” by doing special things for his big-money donors. As Elizabeth Warren puts it, Trump isn’t draining the swamp, he’s filling it with the worst kinds of monsters instead.

Meyers then gets into the uglier nooks and crannies of the situation. The Trumpster is manipulating the system so him and his donors can fulfill their hidden agendas. It’d be a lot funnier if it wasn’t so sad. You can watch it for yourself below.

It’s scary some of the things President Trump is always trying to do. But at least most of us are onto him, so he’s certainly not as sly as he thinks. Now to just survive until he’s out of office.
