24. Maher suggests many Republican men fantasize about Obama

For as much as Republicans claimed to hate Barack Obama, they sure loved to talk about him. Perhaps there’s a deeper reason for that, according to a joke made by Bill Maher on Real Time. It’s such a quick joke that only lasts for a matter of seconds, but it did manage to anger a lot of people.

But first, we’ll talk about the setup. This joke comes up during the New Rules segment on the HBO show. For this one, Bill Maher is discussing the issue of Obamacare, its name in particular. He says that doctors need to always stop calling it Obamacare. It insinuates that Obama is going to personally be in the emergency room the next time you go in.

“It’s not like Obama is going to be the doctor for your next prostate exam,” Maher jokes. He then adds, “That’s just a common fantasy of Republican men.”

When you take a hatred for Obama and mix it with their homophobia, you’re going to anger a lot of Republicans. And that’s exactly what this joke on the show did. However, it has since become one of his best lines.
