Actor Alec Baldwin stopped by the set of Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday to talk about the process of playing President Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live.

This has been a particularly strong season for the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live, in large part thanks to actor Alec Baldwin’s portrayal of President Donald Trump. Fortunately for us, we now know the story behind how Baldwin became the man to play Trump.

On Wednesday, Baldwin stopped by the set of the ABC late night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! to talk with Jimmy Kimmel about how he came to play Trump. Apparently Baldwin originally had no desire to impersonate the President when he was running for office. However, due to some peer pressure from Tina Fey and Lorne Michaels, he finally decided to give it a shot.

Baldwin even admitted to Kimmel during the discussion that he had no idea how he was going to impersonate Trump the first time he showed up on set. He said that as they were putting the wig on him, he looked crazy trying to get the impersonation just right.

Fortunately for fans of SNL, Baldwin knocked it out of the park. You can check out the whole segment of Baldwin talking about playing Trump in the YouTube video below.

There’s no telling whether or not Baldwin will keep playing Trump for Saturday Night Live, but he keeps showing up this season, and that’s a pretty good sign that he’s going to keep it up. Hopefully there aren’t any death threats coming his way any time soon, or else Kimmel will have to launch an investigation.
