22. Jimmy Fallon’s band chooses interesting intro song for Michele Bachmann

Former conservative presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann certainly had her share of detractors during her short-lived campaign. Like many politicians, she would often be accused of being dishonest. This would open the door for her to have an interesting theme song as she came out on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

As Michele was heading towards her seat, a snippet of a popular song was played by Fallon’s band. A familiar “la la la la la la la la la” could be heard, with the song cutting off before it kicks in. But those who know that sound recognize it as the beginning of the song “Lyin’ Ass Bitch”. The obvious implication here is that the band was using the song to call Bachmann a “lyin’ ass bitch” right to her face, essentially.

As you could expect, this created a mini-firestorm. Even people who didn’t agree with Bachmann’s politics felt offended by the song choice, because for them it comes across as sexist. Fallon would soon after take to Twitter to issue out a formal apology.

It’s not unusual for The Roots to play unique songs pertaining to the particular guest coming out. But overtly insulting them this way is unlike them.
