18. More funny moments from Father Gabriel

One character we’ve seen evolve very well since his debut on the show is Father Gabriel.  The coward had been living alone since leaving his parishioners to die outside of his church. His weakness would continue to be nothing but a liability for the group after he’s brought in. He infamously tried to convince Deanna to kick Rick and the others out of Alexandria. Many fans of the show just couldn’t wait to see him go.

But as surprising as it might be, Gabriel is still alive and well. In fact, he’s more likable than he has ever been. This is not only because he finally found some courage, but he’s pretty funny too. His past few appearances are now making many of his haters say, “Alright, you can stay.”

When Negan comes to Alexandria after killing Glenn, he tells Rick he’s looking for Maggie. Apparently Negan has a thing for widows, and he wants to turn Mrs. Rhee into Mrs. Negan. Making his intentions clear, he asks where Maggie is, so he can return with her to the Sanctuary.

Rick was speechless, so Gabriel had to step up and be her hero. He creeps up on Negan with a bright smile, freaking Negan out but entertaining the viewers. Gabe then convincingly lies about Maggie dying soon after that night, so Negan leaves empty-handed.

Let’s hope for some equally awesome Gabriel moments in Season 7B.
