21. Some jaw-dropping shocking moments

The Season 7 premiere of the series was undoubtedly intense. But as a reader of the comic books, it wasn’t necessarily shocking. I certainly saw Glenn’s death coming from a mile away. Word of mouth about the comics also would ensure many fans who’ve never read them still knew about Glenn’s demise. So as sad as his murder is, it wasn’t quite the shocker that it really should have been.

It seems that the TV series is following the comics just a bit too closely these days. Having a widely available blueprint does kill a lot of the mystery of the show. I’m starting to worry about catching up on the comics, knowing it could be killing the magic of the TV series. I guess I just miss when the show went in other directions more often, as then nobody could really say what was coming.

I’m hoping for some big shocking moments to come in Season 7B. Perhaps there was no way around killing Glenn. Maybe that moment was too iconic not to adapt. But now I want to see them do something not in the comics in the season’s back half. I’m not necessarily saying to kill a big name just for the hell of it. Just do something to really make our jaws drop to the floor.
