Sarah Jessica Parker (Ohio)

The Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker knew as a little girl from Ohio she wanted to be a performer. She started with ballet and singing, developing a love for being on stage. Recognizing her passion for entertaining, Parker’s parents moved her closer to New York. There, they started to develop her as a child actress, and the roles began to pile up.

After doing some work on Broadway, Parker nabbed a starring role on the sitcom Square Pegs. The show only lasted for one season, but Parker’s performance was praised by television critics. This led to her getting some decent feature film roles, such as Footloose and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. She would maintain a steady flow of movie parts in the years since, showing less interest in acting on TV.

But then the script for Sex and the City showed up at her door. The show’s creator chose her specifically for the lead role of Carrie Bradshaw. Hollywood actors were much leerier back then about taking TV roles, but ultimately Parker agreed. As we know, the show became very popular and acclaimed. For the part, she obtained several Emmy nominations, winning one of them.
