Pretty soon into his childhood life in Louisiana, actor Ian Somerhalder knew he wanted to be a star. He became a model at the early age of only ten years old. By the time he was 17, he knew he wanted to keep going in that direction, so he took up acting.

Somerhalder was able to find a few roles in film and TV, but his breakout was on the popular series Lost. On that show, he plays Boone Carlyle, and he was one of the very first actors to be cast for the series. In a show which would become iconic for some of its character deaths, Boone was the first major name to go. However, even after his character’s death, Somerhalder reprises the role for an additional seven episodes, including the series finale.

But that’s not the only big role for Somerhalder. He later manages to be cast on The Vampire Diaries as Damon Salvatore, one of the lead vampires on the series. The show is the most successful series on The CW, and Somerhalder’s performance in particular has earned it a lot of praise. This has gotten him several Teen’s Choice Awards and People’s Choice Awards.
