5. Cartman gets anally probed by aliens
When South Park became a full fledged series for Comedy Central, it didn’t waste any time bringing on the controversy. The very first episode of the show “Cartman Gets an Anal Probe” hints viewers right away as to what’s in store. It certainly delivers, and that’s how the show is born.
The series kicks off with Cartman complaining about a dream he had. In the dream, aliens abduct him to do horrible things to him. Chef soon after surprises him by revealing that aliens did visit the town, and Cartman’s dream is more real than he thinks. Still, Cartman denies the aliens had probed him.
Meanwhile, the aliens abduct Kyle’s brother Ike. Eventually, the boys realize the extra-terrestrials implanted something in Cartman’s body. They tie him up until he secretes an alien communication device from his bottom. This lures the alien spaceship back to South Park, where Ike jumps back down to his family.
Although the series is known for its vulgarity at this point, it was unlike anything seen before on TV at the time. Critics trashed the episode based on producing “gratuitous” obscenities, claiming The Simpsons and Beavis and Butt-head were more well done animated shows.
