Seth Meyers is developing two comedies by a Late Night writer and an SNL alum for NBC.

NBC has picked up two single-camera sitcoms produced by Late Night host Seth Meyers. According to Deadline, both comedies are penned by writers from NBC’s late-night series, Mike O’Brien and Amber Ruffin, who have written for SNL and Late Night, respectively.

The first is titled AP Bio, written and co-executive produced by O’Brien. It follows “a former philosophy professor who takes a job teaching AP biology and uses his students to get back at the people in his life who have wronged him.” It reunites Meyers, a former SNL head writer and Weekend Update anchor, with O’Brien, who joined the sketch comedy series as a writer in 2009, and later appeared in front of the camera as a featured player for a single season, before returning to the writers’ room. During his time on the show, he was best known for starring in and producing shorts films like “Grow a Guy” and “The Jay-Z Story,” which starred the performer as the rapper. He continued to occasionally contribute short films following his departure at the end of the 2014-2015 season.

More from Late Night

The second comedy is an untitled project written and co-executive produced by Ruffin focusing on a has-been sibling singing group from the 1980s who now make money by writing jingles and performing their old hits at parties. Ruffin, a Second City alum, continues to write for and occasionally appears on Late Night, starring in the recurring segment “Jokes Seth Can’t Tell,” and most recently addressing the national anthem protests that have permeated the sports world. She also serves as a staff writer for the upcoming Comedy Central series Detroiters, co-created, written, executive produced and starring former SNL cast member-turned-writer Tim Robinson and Veep scene stealer Sam Richardson. Like the aforementioned NBC sitcoms, the series will be produced by SNL boss Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video, with Jason Sudeikis co-executive producing and playing a recurring role.

Along with Meyers, both series will also be executive produced by former Late Night and SNL producer Michael Shoemaker, as well as Andrew Singer, whose producing credits include 30 Rock and Portlandia. The comedian is also behind the IFC mockumentary series Documentary Now!, which he co-created with his former SNL colleagues Fred Armisen and Bill Hader, who both star in each episode. His previous efforts include the short-lived animated series The Awesomes, which he developed with Shoemaker and Singer for Hulu, who recently picked up a VR comedy show from O’Brien and The Office actress Nora Kirkpatrick, appropriately titled, Virtually Mike and Nora.
