1. Ashlee Simpson’s legendary lip-syncing scandal

Some various comedy hopefuls have had their careers shortened after screwing up on Saturday Night Live. It’s easy to lose track of all the performers who just failed to connect with the audience. But the musical performers aren’t immune to this either. One rising pop star in particular saw her career crash and burn after an epic fail on the live program.

Other than the SNL disaster you’re about to read about, Ashlee Simpson is best known as Jessica Simpson’s little sister. The younger Simpson nabbed a spot as the musical guest on SNL which could have given her career a jolt. She performed “Pieces of Me” without a hitch, but when she was about to do her second song, the vocal track for “Pieces of Me” played on the speakers. This proved she was lip-syncing the previous performance.

Simpson did an awkward little dance on the stage before casually strutting away. It is the only time in the history of Saturday Night Live where a musician walks off the stage. Ashlee quickly became the laughingstock of 2004 and her musical career never seemed to recover. The gaffe unfortunately overshadows the former big star’s brief success and will go down a defining moment in her career.
