James Corden rips Donald Trump Jr. for posting a meme comparing Syrian refugees to Skittles.

One of the latest controversies in what it is undoubtedly the craziest election cycle in American history, involves Republican nominee Donald Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., recently sending out a tweet where he compared Syrian refugees to Skittles. Naturally, this caught the attention of several late-night hosts, including James Corden, who mocked the idea during his opening monologue on Tuesday night’s episode of The Late Late Show.

The host opened the show by displaying the tweet in question, which contained a picture of a bowl of Skittles, along with a message that read: “If I had a bowl of skittles and I told you just three would kill you. Would you take a handful? That’s our Syrian refugee crisis.”

“There’s a lot to unpack here,” Corden began. “Why did he write this tweet? Most Trump supporters don’t even like Skittles, mainly because the slogan “Taste the rainbow” sounds a little too gay-friendly for them.”

He went on to offer that the tweet seemed “very hypocritical given that he himself is the son of an immigrant and an orange Skittle.”

The British comic then cited a study that found there’s only a 1 in 3.6 million chance of an American getting killed by a foreign-born terrorist in any given year, but cautioned that “you will definitely die if you eat that many Skittles, but it will be from Type 2 Diabetes.”

Corden next pointed out that the picture used in the meme was taken by a former refugee from Cyprus. “That’s right, the meme complaining about refugees relied on the work of a refugee, which explains Skittles’ brand new slogan: “Taste the irony.”

After a furor erupted on social media over the tweet, the makers of Skittles responded by stating: “Skittles are candy. Refugees are people. We don’t feel it’s an appropriate analogy. We will respectfully refrain from further commentary as anything we say could be misinterpreted as marketing.”

Corden’s lead-in, Stephen Colbert, also tackled the subject on Tuesday night, making a series of candy puns, including calling Donald Trump Jr. an “airhead,” and suggesting he “go fudge himself.” The Late Late Show host went on to lament Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s pending divorce, which he was most upset about because he claims to have named his daughter “Brangelina.”

The Late Late Show with James Corden airs Monday through Thursday at 12:35 a.m. on CBS.
