3. John Oliver shows a picture of his genitals to Edward Snowden
Edward Snowden might be a wanted man. However, that didn’t stop Last Week Tonight host John Oliver from traveling to Moscow and finding him. In a special interview for the show, Oliver talks to the infamous whistleblower about the documents he had released to the press.
Oliver initially grills Snowden about the fact that he didn’t actually read all of the documents he had leaked before turning them over. It was probably the only time a reporter has actually put Snowden at a loss for words. But then they proceeded to talk about what the documents reveal, notably the fact that the government was spying on its citizens.
To see just how far it went, Oliver showed Snowden a picture of his junk. He then asked Snowden if the government would have stolen the photo. Snowden confirms that the government isn’t interested in nude photos as they are so commonplace. But if Oliver were to, say, email that photo to somebody through Google, the government will have intercepted a copy of it for their personal records.
Having Snowden explain the NSA’s surveillance in the context of sending “dick pics” made it so anybody could understand.
