Full Frontal with Samantha Bee took home a TCA Award in the news and information category.

Samantha Bee’s TBS show Full Frontal beat out several serious and satirical programs at Saturday’s Television Critics Association Awards, winning for Outstanding Achievement in News and Information. It was nominated as part of an eclectic group that included Real Time with Bill Maher, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, CBS Sunday Morning, Ken Burns’ PBS documentary Jackie Robinson and comedian W. Kamau Bell’s CNN docuseries United Shades of America.

The win came after the series was snubbed by the Emmys last month, along with her fellow Daily Show alum Stephen Colbert, who now hosts The Late Show, and the Comedy Central late-night series where they both got their start. Instead, TV’s most prestigious awards welcomed newcomers The Late Late Show with James Corden and Jerry Seinfeld’s web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee into the talk show category, along with perennial favorites like Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and the aforementioned Real Time and Last Week Tonight.

According to Deadline, during her acceptance speech, Bee thanked the critics “for letting people know they should watch our little show,” and requested that “you please give us a 15 minute warning when you turn on us.” She also made a tongue-in-cheek remark regarding one of the questions she’s always asked as one of the few women in late-night, joking, “And now, I will take all of your questions on how I achieve work-life balance.”

Full Frontal has been a critical darling since its debut in February, quickly earning a renewal after maintaining solid ratings. Bee has managed to find the right balance of satirical comedy and righteous indignation that made her former boss Jon Stewart so popular, which she does in a 30-minute format similar to Oliver’s HBO series Last Week Tonight, which she shares a studio with, where they tackle important issues in a series of segments instead of devoting time to an interview guest. So far, she’s not only went after Donald Trump and his family members, but she’s also been critical of Bernie Sanders’ most die-hard supporters, while pointing out some of the double standards faced by Hillary Clinton.

Other big winners at the 2016 TCA Awards included The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story and its star Sarah Paulson, Netflix’s Making a Murderer, Black-ish, Mr. Robot, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend actress Rachel Bloom, and FX’s The Americans. Visit tvcritics.org for the entire list of winners.
