1.  Stewart practically gets Crossfire canceled

The intention of the CNN show Crossfire was to feature debates between an expert on the “left” with one on the “right”, often with one or two special guests to join in. So when Jon Stewart was invited as a guest in late 2004 to promote his new book, that in itself wasn’t unusual. But what followed was one of the most talked about moments in Stewart’s career.

Stewart pulled no punches by telling the pundits on both sides that they were all being ridiculous, such as skirting around serious political issues which truly needed the discussion to focus on trite political extremes. The Crossfire co-hosts defend the show as best they can from Stewart’s tirade, though it seemed like they had nothing to say when it Stewart’s vicious burns.

But while most of the vitriol was aimed at the show itself, Republican co-host Tucker Carlson touched a nerve when he told Stewart, “I do think you’re more fun on your show.” Already incensed, that prompted Stewart sorry come back with this line:

“You know what’s interesting, though? You’re as big a dick on your show as you are on any show.”

After being hammered so hard in front of the entire country and never fully able to recover, Crossfire was canceled just a few months later.
