Best SNL cast member from each state
By Jeremy Dick
Will Ferrell (California)
A-list funnyman Will Ferrell is one of the all-time funniest performers ever to join the ranks of Saturday Night Live, so there was a big chance he would be listed as the best one from whichever state he hailed from. In this case, it’s California, and as I expected, no other SNL alumni from the state even comes close.
After graduating college, Ferrell had a few unsuccessful stints with “regular” jobs, eventually moving to Los Angeles to pursue comedy. When he joined the sketch comedy group The Groundlings, he lucked out by having SNL producers seeing some of their material, ultimately bringing Ferrell (along with Cheri O’Teri and Chris Kattan) to audition for Lorne Michaels to be on SNL.
Of course, Ferrell killed the audition, and the rest is history. The actor would go on to appear on the series for seven years, leaving on his own terms to pursue work in feature films. But his hysterical impressions of George W. Bush and Alex Trebek, along with the Butabi brothers characters created with Chris Kattan, will never be forgotten by longtime fans of the series.
Ferrell has since returned as the guest host for the show on two occasions.
