Sarah Silverman (New Hampshire)

Sarah Silverman first performed stand-up comedy at the age of 17, and knew right away that it was what she wanted to do with her life. After graduating high school in New Hampshire, Silverman relocated to attend New York University, and while she ended up dropping out, she continued to work on her comedy career in the area.

Very early into Silverman’s work with stand-up, she was hired as a writer for Saturday Night Live in 1992. She also became a featured player on the series for the season, appearing in various sketches during her short tenure. She ended up getting fired after only one season, but became a much bigger star in the comedy world in the years since. You’ll see her still doing stand-up, as well as appearing in several feature films and TV shows.

According to Silverman, only one of the sketches she wrote made it to the dress rehearsal stage, ultimately never actually airing. She’s since admitted she wasn’t ready for the job when she got it, but is grateful for the experience overall and how it shaped the rest of her career. She has since returned to guest host the show, and her new sketches were much more well received.
