James Corden to visit Late Night, Stephen Colbert’s Late Show
By Hector Cruz
Late Late Show and Tony Awards host James Corden will appear on Late Night with Seth Meyers and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert this week.
In anticipation of his gig hosting the Tony Awards for the first time, James Corden will be visiting two of the New York-based late-night series this week, including his time slot competitor, Seth Meyers. The actor-comedian will first appear on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Monday night, marking his second visit to the show since Colbert took over for David Letterman, while his appearance on Meyers’ Late Night will occur later in the week on Wednesday, June 8.
Though Corden and Meyers may compete for viewers, the pair are far from rivals in real life. The Brit has previously stated that the former SNL cast member was one of first people to congratulate him when it was announced that he would take the reins of The Late Late Show last year, and claims the two frequently email. He last appeared on Late Night in December 2014, just months before succeeding Craig Ferguson.
Corden and Colbert have also shared the stage together before. His last visit found the duo singing “Me & My Shadow” together as a follow-up to a Christmas duet they had on The Colbert Report. While Colbert gets higher ratings than Corden given his earlier time slot, the Into the Woods star is doing much better than the Late Show host on YouTube, with numerous clips routinely going viral, averaging over 100 million views a month compared to Colbert’s 55.5 million, even reaching a billion views in April.

The current relationship between the late-night hosts is much more jovial now than it was before when Jay Leno famously feuded with Letterman. There was also bad blood between the former Tonight Show host and Conan O’Brien, as well as Jimmy Kimmel.
“Books have been written about late-night wars, and people talk about what a competitive environment it all is, but I must say it’s been such a relief to join the ranks of such a lovely and welcoming group of hosts,” Corden told Entertainment Weekly in March.
Corden recently celebrated his one-year anniversary as host of Late Late Show with a one-hour primetime special surrounding his popular “Carpool Karaoke” segments, which featured a new edition with Jennifer Lopez. Broadway stars Jane Krakowski, Audra McDonald, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Hamilton‘s Lin-Manual Miranda will sing show tunes while being chauffeured by the host on tonight’s episode, while Selena Gomez will appear in a new installment later this month.
