Over the last couple of decades, the television business has undergone a staggering amount of upheaval. With that in mind, it isn't shocking at all that some people have been questioning the future of the major network's late-night TV shows. For example, there has been conjecture about Jimmy Kimmel Live! being taken off television again.
Despite the uncertainty that surrounds how talk shows have been performing on network TV, many of them have become successful on a new medium. Over the last several years, each of the major talk shows has had clips become massively popular on YouTube. Now, it has been revealed that the networks' talk shows will have new competition on the video-sharing platform, as YouTube has announced plans to launch its own exclusive talk show.

YouTube will be launching an exclusive talk show with a unique concept
As anyone who has spent time on YouTube will already know, the video-sharing website has one gigantic strength that would be very hard for competitors to recreate. Since a virtually endless amount of video footage has been published on YouTube, there is something for everyone on the website. Now, the company has announced plans for an exclusive late-night talk show that is seemingly designed to embrace that same ethos.
On November 14, 2025, The Hollywood Reporter published an article about some newly announced plans for YouTube. Alongside announcements for upcoming YouTube content like Christmas specials, stand-up comedy, nature documentaries, and shows for kids, the article revealed that a new late-night talk show is coming.
The Hollywood Reporter's article revealed that at a YouTube event in New York, the creator and host of Recess Therapy, Julian Shapiro-Barnum, revealed he is working on a YouTube-exclusive talk show that will be coming soon. Alongside revealing that tantalizing fact, Shapiro-Barnum also revealed some exciting details about his planned talk show.
According to what Shapiro-Barnum revealed in New York, his talk show, which is set to be called Outside Tonight, will be a truly live late-night talk show that will air weekly. Instead of being filmed in a studio, Shapiro-Barnum's talk show will be broadcast on the streets of New York City and in its parks. Intended to take advantage of what is great about past talk shows, Outside Tonight will also feature elements of what has made the genre so successful. The show, which is being teased as bringing the appeal of classic talk shows to the "digital age," will feature celebrity interviews, live musical performances, and discussions with the real people in New York City.
Ultimately, Outside Tonight will fail or succeed based on how successfully the talk show will be executed. Still, based on the announced details about the plans for the show, it certainly seems like YouTube's exclusive new talk show has a lot of potential.
