In the middle of yet another Truth Social posting spree, President Donald Trump took aim at three late-night television hosts. It's clear that the president just can't quit Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, and Stephen Colbert.
President Trump shared an AI-generated image of Kimmel, Fallon, and Colbert as down-and-out street beggars. Each held a sign that read "talentless ex funny comedians need money." The post was just one of dozens President Trump fired off over several hours, many of them featuring AI-created images related to the war in Iran, fantasy “Trump 2028” scenarios, and other self-aggrandizing content.
At this point, Prresident Trump's obsession with late-night hosts has become one of the most reliable recurring storylines in entertainment. For years, he has used social media to attack Kimmel, Fallon, Colbert, and just about every other late-night host whenever they criticize him on air, often demanding they be fired or insisting their shows are failing.
Now, President Trump is imagining a scenario in which three of the country's most popular entertainers are "ex comedians" and broke. For the AI-image the president shared to come true, it would have to be a very far fall for Kimmel, Fallon, and Colbert.
Kimmel has an estimated net worth of $50 million, while Fallon and Colbert stand in the $60 to $75 million range. And what's more, Kimmel extended his contract with ABC while is signed with NBC through 2028. So neither host is going anywhere anytime soon, let alone out on the street.
True, Colbert did lose his gig at The Late Show thanks to CBS and, if some critics are to be believed, President Trump. The White House certainly took a victory lap when Colbert's show got cancelled. But Colbert isn't exactly begging for work as he continues to develop a new Lord of the Rings movie.
So once again, President Trump's attacks on late-night TV backfire. Hosts like Kimmel and Fallon aren't going off the air, and Colbert still remains incredibly popular.
Instead, President Trump once again brings attention to his bizarre obsession with late-night comedians. One would think the president has enough on his plate that he wouldn't spend any free time binge-posting AI slop about the likes of Kimmel, Fallon, and Colbert.
There's also the fact that these attacks have become essentially background noise for the hosts. Gone are the days when they would respond to any mention by the president. Now, it has become so frequent and so harmless that it's not worth engaging in a back-and-forth every time. And even worse, the president has to rely on AI to try and punch back at his late-night critics.
