In just over a week, Squid Game returns to Netflix for the highly-anticipated second season. Star Lee Jung-jae stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to give fans an idea of what's coming in season 2 and beyond.

Squid Game was a breakout hit (to say the least) when it premiered in 2021. It quickly became Netflix's most-watched series, surpassing the likes of Stranger Things and Bridgerton. So despite telling a complete story, the demand was too high for the streamer not to ask for season 2.

Lee Jung-jae shared some obvious ("Many people are going to get killed) and not-so-obvious hints about Squid Game season 2 when he visited The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. So here's your warning to stop reading if you don't want to know anything about the new season.

The actor revealed that the "Red Light, Green Light" doll will return in season 2. That news shouldn't surprise too many fans, considering the doll makes an appearance in the trailer released by Netflix. Lee also shared that his character is the only Squid Game winner competing this season, and there will be new games. However, he played coy when asked if Seong Gi-hun would become the new Front Man running the games.

Jimmy Fallon gets confirmation on Squid Game season 3

Jimmy Fallon then turned his questions to the future, asking if Squid Games season 3 would arrive on Netflix in 2025. Lee gave that question an emphatic yes. Again, this only confirmed news that was already out there.

Series director, writer, and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk shared a letter with Netflix in July 2024. “I am beyond excited to be writing this letter to announce the date for Season 2 and share the news of Season 3, the final season,” he wrote. “The fierce clash between two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3."

The letter seems to confirm that Lee Jung-jae (aka Player 456) will also be back for season 3. So you can rest a little easier knowing that Seong Gi-hun will survive the seven episodes in season 2. His fate following season 3 is another story.

Squid Game season 2 premieres on Netflix on Thursday, December 26. The entire season will drop at once, letting fans binge-watch what should be another thrilling, edge-of-your-seat experience. Netflix has yet to reveal a premiere date in 2025 for Squid Game season 3. Stay tuned.
