This Beetlejuice star failed an SNL audition (and it wasn't Michael Keaton)

The star in question would go on to host the show years later.

Michael Keaton is hosting Saturday Night Live on October 19. The Oscar nominee has been getting lots of attention for reprising his iconic title character in the sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and is a choice selection to host after three previous appearances.

Keaton has the comedic chops to be an SNL cast member, but he never actually auditioned. There was, however, a cast member from the original Beetlejuice film who did audition for the show, and was promptly turned down.

Geena Davis auditioned for SNL back in 1984

Several of the film's more overtly comedic cast members come to mind. Catherine O'Hara and Jeffrey Jones seem like viable candidates. Alec Baldwin is one of the most beloved hosts in SNL history, so he too would make sense. The only Beetlejuice star who auditioned for Saturday Night Live, however, was Geena Davis.

Davis auditioned for SNL in 1984. The actress had a few notable credits under her belt, including a brief role in Tootsie (1982), but she'd yet to really establish herself as a household name. She was turned down, which is surprising given how tumultuous and, frankly, starved for talent the early 80s were for the show.

The Oscar winner was invited to host in 1989

Things obviously worked in Davis' favor, though. She broke out with The Fly (1986), and won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her turn in The Accidental Tourist (1988). She then became one of the biggest stars of the early 90s, with hits like Thelma & Louise (1991) and A League of Their Own (1992) making use of her versatile skillset.

Davis' SNL experience came full circle in 1989, when she was invited to host the show. She hasn't been on the sketch show since, and she did not appear in the Beetlejuice sequel, but she continues to be a force on the big and small screen. Her most recent role was in the horror thriller Blink Twice.
