The View's Sunny Hostin labels Donald Trump 'trash' after controversial rally
Donald Trump continued to incite controversy at his latest campaign rally. The former president invited comedian Tony Hinchcliffe to speak at his Madison Square Garden event, and Hinchcliffe proceeded to insult the territory of Puerto Rico.
"I don't know if you guys know this," he told the crowd. "But there's literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean... It's called Puerto Rico." Hinchcliffe's "joke" was met with derision online, and it even made its way to The View, where one of the hosts fired insults back at Trump.
Hostin criticized the rhetoric of Trump's guest
Sunny Hostin was offended by Trump's decision to bring Hinchcliffe to the event and give him a podium from which to spread hate. She stated that Trump, in reality, was the "garbage" that the comedian referenced:
"This Puerto Rican has something to say about the island that I love, where my family is from, Puerto Rico is trash? We are Americans, Donald Trump."
Her disparaging comments about the former president did not mark the end of her comments, however. Hostin noted that Puerto Ricans are crucial votes with regards to swing states, and then proceeded to list off some of the Puerto Ricans who have impacted American culture over the years.
She mocked Donald Trump's Instagram followers
"Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Bad Bunny, Luis Fonsi, and Marc Anthony have over 345 million followers on Instagram," Hostin remarked. "I think you only have 26 million. Since you care so much about size."
The View host circled back around to the trash analogy, and cited that election day will mark the point at which Donald Trump will be taken out. She addressed her fellow Puerto Ricans, and noted that Nov. 5 will mark "trash collection day" for the Republican nominee.
Sunny Hostin's View co-host, Ana Navarro, echoed this sentiment. She rattled off all the ways in which Trump has shown his colors with regards to bigotry, and urged voters to pay attention. "Maybe, this comedian," she noted. "Vetted by the Trump campaign because he reflects what Trump has said his entire lifetime, maybe that will be enough."
