If there’s one late night show we looked forward to for starting off the night, it’s The Daily Show. Well, there is some disappointing news, but it’s not completely unexpected.
The Daily Show will not have any new episodes this week. In fact, to make matters worse, the series is off the air until the new year. That’s right; last week had the last episode of 2025!
There is a little bit of good news as we go into the winter break, though. We know when The Daily Show will return in 2026.
The Daily Show is taking the holiday season off
The Thursday, Dec. 11 episode was the last of 2025. This wasn’t all that surprising, as we had known that the show was slated to take the rest of the year off after that episode. With an almost full rotation of guest hosts throughout the last two weeks of December, it also made a lot of sense to go off the air for a short time.
This is the usual time of year The Daily Show heads off the air. The hosts and the crew head home for the holiday season. A lot of shows take this time of year off, although the broadcast networks are opting for a full week of new episodes this week. Cable channels work a little differently due to the budgets.
If you want to spend some time with the series, you’ll need to turn to Paramount+. Comedy Central is opting for reruns of Family Guy tonight, Monday, Dec. 15 and it doesn’t look like there will be reruns of The Daily Show throughout the break. So, Paramount+ is the place for all old episodes of the series.
When will The Daily Show return in 2026?
So, now for the great news. The Daily Show will be back in the new year, and we don’t have to wait too long for the episodes.
The Daily Show will return on Monday, Jan. 5. Of course, the schedule for the return hasn’t been set yet. Nor do we know who the hosts will be throughout the first week back. Jon Stewart is going to return on Mondays, as he recently renewed his contract until December 2026, but the rest of the week will be filled with the guest hosts.
It would be great to have some sort of consistency to the hosts moving forward. I think that’s the one thing that could make this late-night show a bigger success.
