The Daily Show is getting a new voice as the Comedy Central late-night TV show announces another host joining its rotation. Correspondent Josh Johnson is next up to get his chance in the spotlight.

After Jon Stewart makes his weekly appearance on Monday night, Johnson will be behind the Daily Show for the remainder of the week. His first show will be on Tuesday, July 22, when he sits down with author Rob Franklin. Singer Samara Cyn and Happy Gilmore 2 actor Christopher McDonald are scheduled to talk with Johnson later in the week.

It may be Johnson's first turn hosting The Daily Show, but he's already put in years of work at the iconic late-night franchise. The stand-up comedian joined the writing staff in 2017, and made his debut as a correspondent on February 20, 2024.

Johnson's field pieces have covered a wide range of topics, including where cab drivers go to the bathroom, the price of eggs, and how rich people avoid paying taxes. He's also appeared in studio to talk Kendrick Lamar and Drake.

Prior to that, the 35-year-old worked as a writer and performer on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. He's also released two comedy specials, toured with Trevor Noah, and voiced the character Harry Buns on the Disney Channel animated series Kliff.

Johnson's debut as a Daily Show host comes at an interesting time in late-night TV. Jon Stewart's return to the desk on Monday night is expected to garner extra attention in the wake of CBS cancelling The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Stewart already shared his thoughts on the decision. It came just days after Colbert and Stewart criticized parent company Paramount for settling a lawsuit brought by President Donald Trump over a 60 Minutes interview with Vice President Kamala Harris.

Paramount denied any wrongdoing, but still paid out $16 million. Colbert and Stewart both argued it was a "bribe" meant to get the FCC to ease off a proposed merger between Paramount and Skydance. Whether or not Stewart doubles-down in the wake of Colbert's cancellation remains to be seen.

Regardless, it will put more eyes on The Daily Show and give Josh Johnson a strong foundation to carry through the rest of the week. It's unlikely he'll strike the same tone if Stewart chooses to continue bashing Paramount. Although a late-night TV veteran, Johnson has much more to lose by getting on his bosses' bad side compared to Stewart.
