It was certainly disappointing to hear that Taylor Tomlinson would leave After Midnight, and it was even more disappointing to hear that CBS wouldn’t find a new host. Instead, the late night panel series disappeared completely from the airwaves.
The one thing that made this a little easier to swallow was that Tomlinson was leaving on her own accord. She made it clear that she wanted to focus more on her love of stand-up, and that’s exactly what she did. And now, it won’t be long until we get to see one of her standup comedy shows on our screens.
Netflix sets the date for a Taylor Tomlinson special
Tomlinson announced back in November that she had been working on a new standup that would air on Netflix. She didn’t give any details of the title of the special or when it would air, but we knew that something was coming.
Well, Netflix has now confirmed everything that we need to know. Not only do we have a date, but we have a title and details of what to expect. The standup special was taped during her “Save Me” comedy tour from last year.
Titled Prodigal Daughter, the special will air on Netflix on Tuesday, Feb. 24. This is going to be great news for those who were ready for broadcast shows to return, as CBS recently confirmed that the NCIS franchise’s return would be delayed by a week due to the State of the Union Address. We can assume that all networks will follow suit, so if you don’t want to watch the State of the Union Address, there’s the comedy special instead.
What is Prodigal Daughter about?
This marks the first time Tomlinson will be back on our screens since she left After Midnight. This is also her directorial debut for her comedy specials, which just adds to the layer of excitement.
Prodigal Daughter is focused on topics like death, sex, and religion, which are all pretty standard topics for the former late night panel host. There is a part of the tour that’s called “Crown Confessions,” where Tomlinson involves the audience more, but Netflix hasn’t shared if that will be part of the new special or not.
The special was filmed over two performances at Fountain Street Church in Michigan. It’s her fourth special with Netflix, with the first from 2020 titled Quarter-Life Crisis. The specials have come out every two years, so we were expecting another one this year, especially with her choosing standup over After Midnight.
Prodigal Daughter will be available to stream on Netflix on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
