Stephen Colbert obliterates Marco Rubio for changing his tune on Trump
Stephen Colbert is going to have a lot of material for the next four years. All the late night hosts are going to, thanks to Donald Trump's election triumph, but Colbert has been one of the most consistent when it comes to Trump bashing.
The Late Show host has had plenty to say about the outcome of the election, and even more to say about the politicians that have been appointed to Trump's cabinet this week. Colbert took particular umbrage with U.S. Senator Marco Rubio, who was nominated for the role of Secretary of State.
The host mocked Marco Rubio for kissing up to Trump
Rubio has been a vocal critic of Trump's in the past, and Colbert did not let this fact slide. The host proceeded to lay into the U.S. Senator for blatantly changing his tune in order to advance his own career:
"Rubio saw that people liked Trump more than they like him, so he set his lips on butt smooch."
Colbert then showed footage of Rubio mocking Donald Trump's hands during a 2016 debate. "He’s like six-two, which is why I don’t understand why his hands are the size of someone who’s five-two," the Senator remarked. "And you know what they say about men with small hands."
Colbert pointed out Rubio's hypocritical behavior
The clip then cuts off so that Colbert could finish the rest of the saying. He had a few tweaks to factor in Marco Rubio's recent change of heart, though: "They keep your balls in a jar on their desk?"
The Late Show host was utterly disgusted by notion that someone can publicly criticize Trump, then switch over to his team just by sucking up to him. So disgusted, in fact, that he used his podium to make it clear that he would not be following Marco Rubio's lead. "I’d like to take this opportunity to say to our new president-elect: pass," Colbert quipped.
The rest of the politicians elected to Trump's cabinet should given Colbert enough material to run multiple shows a night.
